Recent projects include serving as Artistic Director and Producer of “Dancing for Dancers”, an annual concert for the benefit of the Edward Stewart Memorial Scholarship Fund, and co-chairing with Barbara Weisberger a Balanchine Birthday Celebration Day, featuring the Pennsylvania Ballet II, for the Columbia Festival of the Arts in Columbia, Maryland. Exciting ideas for possible development of an ongoing Pennsylvania Ballet presence in Maryland, subsequent to the Festival, are being considered. Earlier in Maryland, Ms. Maxwell was Guest Instructor at Towson University, the Baltimore School for the Arts and the Maryland Ballet. She also choreographed for the Peabody Chamber Ballet. Before her arrival in Maryland, she earned a Bachelor of Arts from Mercer University and certificates in several methods of ballet, some of which were earned while she was a scholarship student at the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto. Ms. Maxwell was in New York City during the 60’s and early 70’s continuing to study at ABT and the Joffrey. She performed extensively in the Metropolitan Opera Ballet; the New York City Opera; the Philadelphia Lyric; Larry Richardson and Company (a modern dance company); Vadim Sulima’s International Folk Ensemble; and in the Ballet Company at Radio City Music Hall. She was honored in 1995 by the Arts Council in her community, Columbia, Maryland, as The Arts Educator of the Year. |
